DPMS April 2010 - with Nutty NRG and Karl Hinds
This episode had some homegrown talent repping the London streets from East to South West London – Karl Hinds & Nutty NRG.
Those who are familiar with Wandsworth Shopping Centre will agree with me that a lot of concentration goes into getting from A to B whilst avoiding the workers on lunch break, the students, the pram pushers, the Sainsbury’s shoppers... you get the picture! The last thing you wanna do is waste time on ... well... time wasters, so when I saw a group of trendy looking dudes with a stack of cd’s in hand, I thought ‘ere we go’. However, something was different about these dudes, they looked serious about their grind, so I took a cd and hoped for the best. Two songs into the Nutty NRG mixtape and I was like ‘OK... iz dat how dey goin on!!!’ and got on the phone with them to arrange an interview. Seriously, these dudes are as talented as ANY up and coming artist from London you might can name and yet again we are proud to promote this hot homegrown talent on the Draft Pick Mix Show. Just let the haters know where you heard them first!!
Whilst on You Tube searching for some rare UK Hip Hop video clips, I saw a dude dissing some of the UK legends, I was like ‘Whaaat?!’. A new younger rapper called Smiler made a track about the UK scene dropping names in between and being rather disrespectful to some artists. Some of the names he mentioned were Skinnyman, Klashnekoff, Roots Manuva, Ty, Karl Hinds & Jehst. He had been on, my boy, DJ 279’s classic radio show defending his position. I saw that Karl Hinds & Klashnekoff had responded, so I holla’d at Karl Hinds for his take on the situation. His point of view about the track and the game in general, had never really been highlighted so I asked him if he would be ok to do a quick interview, he agreed. The full interview is up already and exclusive to The Draft Pick Mix Show...of course.
Peace
